Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I have the exciting role of learning how the technology made by BAE Systems is put into practice as well as the variety of fault finding, testing and calibration techniques employed by the company to help maintain the product produced, for them to be shipped around the world to the customers in working condition
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

the programme is very fun and exciting as, a lot of the knowledge learned is very useful for life outside of work, the culture within the company is great as it gives everyone the chance to learn something new. the programme has met and gone over my expectations as I expected there to be all work and no play, but it has been proven otherwise.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

whilst working I have developed the necessary skills to fault find, the main skill that i have managed to work on is my communication skill, as the teams in BAE Systems are very friendly and open to communication, it took me time to come out of my shell and gain the confidence.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

the programme structure is amazing, the first time on site with all the new apprentices is a bit nerve wracking but after some fun and games everyone one get familiar, the training and support given by the Apprenticeship Team can't be faulted as they are happy to help with any problem faced and always keen to listen. the mentor system that has been put in place for the second year, where any questions that I was unsure about a third year or past apprentice is more than happy to help answer.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

the manager, HR mentors and occupational health teams are always happy to help and listen to any concerns. The support from the employer is as much as needed, regular meetings can be arranged to keep updated and informed of any situation, the support is always available no matter how far down the line it is needed
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

the support from my employer is outstanding and can't fault it, the support needed is the same as the support mentioned above, it is always there when needed, the general attitude to the support is that it is always kept between you and them, the tutors are more than happy enough to spend extra time helping with work that is causing problems.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

the training provided has helped me get a basic understanding of what need to be done, where the company then expands on it during the 2nd year where it starts to show via the placements that I got placed in. a lot of what is learnt is put into practice so no skills or information is left isle.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

numerous sports group are run on site and events with the company are held every year when there are exceptions to this, social events and clubs are more than happy to welcome new members to groups and yearly team get togethers, the company supports local communities, lots of events and classes to build or work on new and existing skills.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
the application process can be a little bit confusing but, take your time and it will work out, for the interviews don't be afraid to talk about your hobbies, find out what hobbies and interests you have can show how open minded you are to new and different things, it is a great opportunity that should not be passed up.
