Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Field based role. This includes attending BT exchanges within the region and connecting new business customers to the Vodafone network. This includes working with copper and fibre optic cables. Days when I am not working on my own I attend site with a colleague to build upon my skills.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I am enjoying the apprenticeship. There is lots of theory based learning and then there is a lot of opportunity to put the knowledge to the test and get hands on with a vast amount of different hardware and tools.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt lots in my first 6 months. Content so far has covered network topologies, telephony and data services, structured cabling, optical fibre principles, transmission principles, IP networks and IP routing. I have also had opportunities to get hands on with lots of different hardware and test equipment.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

It took a few weeks before I had a structured learning plan in place so during quieter days when I was at home I didn't know what to read upon to increase my knowledge, however this was resolved once the learning plan was put together.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

There has been a lot of support from Vodafone. My manager and team have been very approachable and are happy to help me with any questions I have. Even when I need to send an email to different department within the company they are efficient.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
QA so far have delivered a good online based learning programme. I have monthly reviews with QA who are keen to know my progression and are happy to help with any issues I have, even if it is not work related.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The theory based learning provided by QA is outstanding. It has helped me better understand all aspects of the role in general but has also helped me understand more complicated network issues. My knowledge in Telecommunications within my first 6 months of the apprenticeship has increased ten fold.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Yes, there are lots of different activities/groups to get involved in at Vodafone. You get 3 days per year where you can give your time to charity.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Vodafone?
1 - If a vacancy becomes available local to yourself, apply.
2 - Don't be put off if you don't have any Telecoms experience, this can be taught.
3 - Take your time with the application and do your research, thousands apply every year and is a very popular apprenticeship.
