Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

My main day to day role is to build, test and maintain Vodafone’s core and mobile radio access networks. Installing internet access equipment's at customer sites so that they have a fixed bandwidth connection. Working on cell site to connect customers within that area.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I really enjoy using my hands for an install or troubleshoot problems. I have a great team who is always very supportive in case I don't understand something. Vodafone support their employees for learning new things and I can use internal software's to improve my skills.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I feel that my communication skills has improved dramatically, as my role involves communication between customers, internal and external stakeholders. The role involves various installation; therefore, I have learnt many techniques to complete jobs to a high standard. The training allowed me to learn new skills to troubleshoot network problems.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

My role is very organised, I am always updated for the job. I have skill coach meetings to help me improve my skills. I am well aware of the deadlines for tasks set by training provider. As part of the programme I have 20% off the job to complete assignments.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I have regular team meetings and one to one meetings; where everyone offer me support. If ever I am unsure about something, I can reach for help from my team or other departments within Vodafone. I have access to field guides where i can find answers to problems.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

QA is very supportive towards my apprenticeship. My tutor explains contents using various analogy to help me understand how things work within my role. I have access to PTT courses which provide fundamental knowledge about telecoms and networking. My skill coach goes through portfolio to prepare me for end-point-assessment.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The contents covered are very much linked with my day to day job, it provides fundamental knowledge about how equipment's work. I have learnt various commands from my training which helped me password recover cisco router on my job. I am constantly learning because technology is always evolving.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

We have many social events I can take part in. I am part of an internal group, where there are opportunities to get involved in charity events to help those that are less fortunate. Vodafone hosts many social events and networking events for apprentices to get involved in.

Why?
Vodafone is very supportive and will help you grow. There are many opportunities once completed the apprenticeship programme. We have many staff discounts and benefits as apprentices. Vodafone provides everything needed to complete the job such as Van, phone, tablet and tools. Great environment and great culture and great people.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Vodafone?
There are 3 stages; Application, online video assessment and assessment day. Always be yourself and let your personality shine. Provide evidence to backup your point and you will do great. Onboarding process was very smooth. Once you step in Vodafone, there are many opportunity to progress.
