Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Systems Engineering, supporting projects in the identification of User and System Requirements, modelling of system solution Structure and Behaviour and tracking the delivery of requirement compliance of the developed solution through Verification, Validation and Testing.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

The block release study provides meaningful and immersive time to develop academic knowledge, supplementing work based projects which allow application of this knowledge to develop skills. I have enjoyed both the academic study and work based application on interesting projects.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

The role I am employed in is a progression due to the new skills formally developed in studying towards the Apprenticeship Programme, the Business has supported my development professionally through the Scheme including additional training as required for software and processes, as well as peer support in reviewing work and developing skills.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

The University study is clearly published each year for unit selection, with regular 12 week reviews with mentor and business apprenticeship representatives to support progress through the scheme.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

My employers provide me with the time to attend academic study modules at university, a mentor to support queries relating to apprenticeship, a training representative to review progress and resolve any queries relating to the scheme and have provided interesting projects to engage skills and knowledge.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

The University have provided a point of contact for all pastoral issues, have an online system for accessing resources and tutors have been available to answer any questions during periods of study. An initial induction week provided all necessary details.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The units studied have been selected at directly improve my professional skills and I am satisfied that I have developed my role, abilities and Skills resulting from academic study into my vocational work.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

My work has opportunities for extra curricular schemes for both apprentices and employees. I am particularly engaged in the Professional Membership of the IET, which my business supports for both membership and applications for registration.

Why?
BAE Systems have been a fair and generous employer over my working duration, funding various training, professional registration, career progression and a variety of schemes for staff incentives including bonus, shares etc. I have found good opportunities to move roles an develop within the organistaion.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Review the various schemes, benefits, business unit work areas and sites available to select roles that offer mutual benefit to meet the aims and objectives of your personal development and make the most of the available resources, both training and professional support.
