Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

The Mechanical Fitter role involves working from engineering drawings, data and documentation in order to undertake the manufacture, installation, testing, commissioning, fault diagnosis, maintenance, overhaul and removal of mechanical and fluid power equipment on ships and submarines involved in commercial shipping. This can include propulsion machinery, weapons, reactor and auxiliary systems (such as water, air conditioning and power generation).
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I really enjoy my apprenticeship, unfortunately the pandemic has us working from home at the moment, but I cannot wait to get back!!!

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learned how to strip an engine and successfully put it back together. I have further developed my skills in reading measuring equipment.

How well organised/structured is your programme?

The organisation and structure of my apprenticeship programme has all be very good so far.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive support from my employer as and when needed they are always ready to help.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

There is plenty of support from my training provider especially when it comes to exams and qualifications.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I think the qualifications I gain along the way of my apprenticeship are very fitting for the apprenticeship they are all relevant and helpful for my future.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are gyms to visit and in the past there have been football teams and stuff, however with the current pandemic that's been a bit more difficult.
