Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
On days we are in work we are usually in the workshop doing small mechanical and electrical projects to help learn the principles of engineering. Based on what we do we will then write up reports and procedures. Collage is separate and would be at collage site however has changed to online temporarily.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
I am enjoying the programme a lot especially the practical side of the apprentichip. As well as this the people i am around while on the course make it extremely fun as well. It is slightly annoying that more of the course is at home at the moment but it is still run extremely well.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
So far i have developed mechanical fitting techniques and have learnt the basics of engine maintenance.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The programme has a very good structure. it has been split into two sections each with their own sub-sections. The first part is skills development which is split into different learning topics, the second part is the placement section where you trial areas of the business in 4 month stints
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I receive a lot of support from employer due to the fact i have colour vision deficiency. Everything has been made so its not a hinderance and where it is a problem there is always some one to help. as well as that the support for general work is very good as well
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
The collage hasn't given as much support as i would have liked and a fair bit of it has also been disrupted due to having to use online learning but we have still been taught most of what we should have been
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
2/5
Unfortunately I don't think the qualification helps hugely in the role im in. The qualification is based around the manual labour side where as i am going to be doing mainly design in the business. It would have been better if i was on a CAD course or similar but there is some use in knowing the processes that make up the designs
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
2/5
Currently there isn't any due to covid however i do know that there are some that have run before

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I have already recommended BAE to a couple of people as it is a very fun, well structured apprenticeship and it has a salary that allows people from other areas of the country to move to be part of it like i did.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Although qualifications are very important it is also important to show you are ready for the work environment and have other life and work experience.
