It involved talks from people who went through both the apprenticeship and graduate schemes and their experiences on it and how they found it initially and what they really enjoyed about it. It involved a case study where we could give our own opinions on an example study. It also involved running through what the EY business apprenticeship comprises of. There were talks on inclusiveness and also the support given which is quite a lot when you first join involving a buddy and a counsellor.
To what extent did you enjoy your work experience?

I enjoyed the work experience a lot as there were a range of activities which were very engaging, interesting and insightful for myself. It was nothing like I expected as I presumed it would be lots of tasks you would constantly do whilst being given advice. I enjoyed the talks from current employees at EY and how they have find out it including the many amazing travel opportunities they talked about including nationally and internantionally.
How well organised was your work experience?

Due to it being virtual, I was very impressed about the range of activities given us to listen, participate and enjoy. There was a set structure and timings of what was going to be happening on microsoft teams and gave you instructions on what you had to do. Most of the events ran on time basically and this enabled me to get the most out of this experience which I found very useful and interesting.
How much did your work experience help you in deciding on your future career path?

It gave me a clear insight into the industry and what it would entail. The employees' perspective were very useful and informative. In terms of my career path, I am still unsure what I would do whether that's go to university first or doing an apprenticeship with EY. I must say if I did go to Uni I would strongly consider working at EY with the graduate scheme as long as my interests were still towards that direction/sector.

This question is particularly hard to answer due to this experience of the EY business academy being virtual so I can't really comment on this unfortunately. I was paid for the 3 days of the virtual experience.
Skills Development
What training and skills development did you learn from your work experience?

We had a session on business writing which was very insightful for myself and the types of rules or ideas you have to keep in mind when writing a letter or sending an email to someone else within the business. We also got given tips on presentation skills which involves what to put on your slides, how to speak, gestures and many more great tips. We got given a case study to analyse and then had a session to just talk abut our ideas using a set structure which helped me to see the kind of work you would do.
Company Culture
How much did you learn about the company culture and what it would be like to work there?

I learnt a lot of details and the culture especially at EY which promotes you being yourself and really driving your career in the pathway that best suits yourself. Despite it being virtual, I still got the overall sense of how it would be to work there and that people are very friendly, happy to help and welcoming. We learnt about what the company prides itself and also the values they promote to show the positivity of it.
Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees?

This was also affected by the Covid-19 pandemic but there were numerous opportunities to listen to employees' experiences and then ask them some questions about their experiences and how they found adjusting to EY and what they thought of their work on a day-to-day basis and how it varied due to the range of clients that they worked with. If it was done face-to-face I am sure there would have been many opportunities for this to happen.

Would you recommend EY to a friend?
Yes
Why?
As long as you are interested in this field of work EY promotes driving your career and pathway to suit you and learning lots on the job like no other big 4 firm. The working environment seems very nice and people are always happy to help which gives a community feel to it. They also organise social events so you can enjoy the downtime with your colleagues which I think is very nice and would definitely help to maintain the work life balance of it all.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
I would say just act as yourself. Don't try to be something that you are not as that comes across worse and you may well struggle when you first start working at EY. Make sure you are organised and follow all the steps closely reading all the instructions, so that you can assure you complete the process very smoothly and be prepared knowing the company and what they promote. Always ask questions/ ask for help as that shows your eagerness and willingness to learn and every question you ask could always benefit someone else but its helping yourself primarily at the end of the day.
