Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
My role involved doing CAD design, CDM, surveying and design engineering
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
2/5
I enjoyed the first year, during the second year it was very stressful and I felt like a full time employee doing what a fully qualified engineer would do.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
I have developed a lot of new skills, including CAD which is very important in the industry. Developed my communication and time keeping skills.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
2/5
It wasn’t very well organised I just did whatever role was most needed at the time there was no real structure.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
I received a lot of support from my employer. Although I do feel they could have been more understanding to how the apprentices felt.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
At first not a lot of support but when we got our new tutor we received all the support we could ever need.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
The qualification doesn’t necessarily help me perform better in my role but it was informative and necessary to progress in the future.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
2/5
No not really. The only thing we had was a team that could go and speak to schools which I was involved in but there was no community spirit or activities which is disappointing.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Kier Group to a friend?
No
Why?
Overall I’m grateful for my time there however it was very stressful and there is no room for real progression.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Kier Group?
I would advice they be themselves during the interview stages be confident and speak up if you aren’t happy with anything.
