Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

what is involved in a day to day basis:
Answering calls
Answering customers quieries
Helping team work loads
Helping with any office work that needs doing throughout the department
Dealing with complaints and complaint calls
Sometimes depending on your skills youll be asked to help with other roles within your current role such as working hires, fatalties, aged debt and much more.
Daily interactions tend to be with customers. team mates, Third parties and third party insurers.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I think the apprentiship programme i didnt really enjoy all that much. Thats my honest opinion, i found it very boring and didnt seem very well planned out. However, the work i actually did i enjoyed the team i got put in was really good filled with social young people and the company culture was fantastic it had a great work life balance which being young myself is what i was looking for.
My job i enjoy certain aspects but not as a whole.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

i learnt loads of new skills but also developed skills which i already had.
For example i have gained much more self confidence within myself and gained much more in depth analytical skills.
Skills i have developed on are things such as team work, interpersonal skills and being able to use my own initiative.
I have done the financial skills apprenticeship which has allowed me to develop these skills but mostly ive learnt these from being on the floor.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

Kind of mentioned this previous but the programme which direct line provided such as induction and training in insurance was fantastic and really helped me find my way in the company. Howveer, the programme babington run was shocking, they changed us tutors every 2 weeks so it was impossible to get to know someone. The session the tutors came in on was a waste of time as the only read from the book. So no on babingtons behalf it was poorly organised.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

My employer supported us as much as they could they would allow us 3 and a half hours off the phones to do whatever tasks we had been set by babington. This would be things like studying for our exam or completing our learning logs ect. Babington didnt really support you if we needed help we would have to email them adivising this they would sometimes take days to respond even when it was an urgent query.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

really bad as mentioned throughout. The tutor half the time didnt know herself what she was doing. Support was slim they would come see us every 2 months or so and just read through the book provided and as mentioned before you would email them and they would take forever to respond. We leaned on each other as handlers more thna we did babington. The general attitude was figure it out yourself they really didnt care.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I believe it made absolutly no difference. Most things i have learnt through actually doing the job and through others on the floor. I think i could of simply done the induction and the training sessions which direct line offered and had been ready to do the job. I do not apply anything i learnt on my apprentice time on the job. This is because most the things we learnt were to do with general insurance.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

social activities within work they tend to do a few throughout the year, such as a summer party and tend to do something for christmas aswell whether that be a party or give you money for each team member to do a work meal.
There is also social events as a department we do but organised ourselves not through work such as going out drinking on mad friday or sometimes in teams we do team nights out.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Direct Line to a friend?

Why?

I wouldnt due to the lack of progression that is within the company. Once you start as a claims handler you will be pretty much stuck as a claims handler. If thats something you want then thats great but most of us would like to progress onto bigger roles and this compmany wont really let you do that.
The only benefit is the perks we get through work and the work life balance DLG offers.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Direct Line?

So for the online application its just answer all the questions as detailed and as best as you can. for the actual interview just be 100% yourself, you do need to be confident ill give you that as they tend to do group activites and they are looking for people who can speak up and voice there opinion so you defiantly need to say something if you get a group activity. Just try your best everyone is really nice and they make you feel calm throughout.
