Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
Working as a finance business partner, which involves communicating in between the accounting team and my internal team.
Analysing month end spending, variances to forecasts, and building new forecasts and budgets with that information.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
I was given the responsibility of a full time employee - I was doing the same work with the same expectations as other people on my team but working for less stakeholders. I felt trusted to own all my work

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
There are multiple areas of support - I had the support of my team and my manager, as well as I was given a buddy who I would speak to biweekly about I was doing.
I also was paired up with mentors from different teams who I spoke to about my career aims and queries.

Company Culture
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
It's a friendly company culture - we have monthly meetings with my wider team, and recently had our annual Finance & Strategy Away Day. There are sometimes opportunities to do non-work activities, such as games nights and film club. There are organisations were people of various identities can interact - I have attended events with the Women's network as well as the We Care network (for carers).

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I've hugely enjoyed my time here - I have grown in my resilience and self confidence, gained a foundational understanding of accounting, and I have met many kind and accomplished people I have a lot of respect for.

What advice would you give to others applying to Virgin Media O2
Get involved with as many things as possible - the easiest way of connecting with people is attending events (with the wider team as well as with the networks) and showing your face! Give yourself grace that it may take a while to get accustomed to the work, but reach out your team when you struggle and have faith that you will grow in your ability with time.
