Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
Researching new technology and working on existing projects. This can involve meetings with people within BAE Systems to discuss ideas, as well as meetings with outside organisations to discuss collaborations and mutual interests.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Yes, I was given the same responsibilities as I regular employee would be and am expected to work to the same level which is good as it gave me a sense of the real working world.

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
Report Writing- helped write technology reports
Leadership- volunteered to lead a 6 week project at the local secondary school.
Software skills- Using new software/websites
Presenting skills- Many presentations for volunteering purposes, talking to a group of students at university and my team in general
Organisation and leadership- Organised the first day for new group of starters joining the business
General educational/development skills- from what I've learnt in my day-to-day role

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
I always knew who to contact if I had trouble or needed help with something on my placement, but in general was left to my own work which was good as it gave me a sense of independence.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Working from home it is hard to judge the atmosphere. But over the year the culture was friendly and supportive. In general everyone wants to see you succeed and do well.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
Given the fact the placement was online, I still very much enjoyed my placement. I was able to get involved with a lot of unique projects and learn a lot about things I haven't previously learnt about at university.

What advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems
Get an understanding of what the company want from a prospective employee. They're a very flexible company so do not take advantage of that, because they're looking for hard working people who have an ambition and know where they want to progress within the company.
At the interview stage show an interest in the company and ask questions about your role, and what you'll be doing within the company.
