Overview of Experience
Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
I participated in a range of recruiter-led insight sessions, wherein several department representatives, including company directors, associates, and professional competency advisors provided overviews of their day-to-day work. I also virtually collaborated with a group of other insight students to create and deliver a presentation on potential challenges and opportunities that may face Savills in the next 5 years.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
Throughout the three days, departmental overviews were conducted by representatives from across several different sectors witihn the company. This allowed me to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the potential roles available. In addition, with recruitment and professional competency advisors providing their insight into how to specialise within a property career, even though I am from a non-cognate background, I feel as though I am better prepared to make informed career decisions.

Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
I have had the opportunity to engage in an online group work activity, practicing my teamwork skills in a new setting. It was a challenge to channel ideas, conduct research, organize our findings and present them as a team under time-constraints, but this experience was invaluable in allowing for me to practice this skill. I also appreciate having the opportunity to speak directly with industry professionals, developing my communicaiton skills.

How would you rate business leader involvement during the insight

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The company culture, on the basis of my interactions with recruitment officers and department representatives, seems to be progressive and friendly, with the general consensus being that there is are opportunities for development available should you be willing to work for them. With several directors having worked for the company for over 15 years, I suspect that Savills is a fulfilling place to work.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
I have enjoyed the insight event as it has given me the opportunity to better understand what a career in property may look like. I come from an Economics degree background and study heavily mathematical work, so I appreciated getting to know how applied areas of Investment Management may seem. I appreciate the work that has gone into organising this event as I am now better able to think about potential careers.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Savills
- Try to demonstrate a genuine interest in property/developments through your application
- Approach the experience as an opportunity to learn, whether you think you'll puruse a career in property or not
- Make sure to consistently check the website for new spring or summer schemes available, and ensure that you are free when they run (this scheme was running through my last week before Easter, so several assignments were due simultaneously)
