Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
I offer solutions to presented problems/challenges that after the devices or developing new concepts for future endeavours. In my role, I create CAD models that are 3D printed to create and assemble prototypes for testing. I also carry out tests to ensure that the prototypes works as desired for proof of concept.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Yes, I have been responsible for managing my time effectively to carry out my project task on time while also doing other tasks assigned by the placement team.

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
I have improved my technical skills such as CAD modelling, and learnt to use new equipment such as thermocouples and particle size testing machines.

I’ve have a lot of support and guidance provided throughout my placement. For the testing I carried out, I always had someone from other teams watching over me and the initial projects I worked on, I worked other team members in my team.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The people at BAT are very welcoming and friendly so if I needed help, I could always ask anyone and they would happily help. It’s also a very diverse multicultural workplace which was very nice to be in.

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
It was a very enjoyable experience. I feel like it’s taught and shown me what I want to do in my engineering career. And it’s been a great opportunity for networking and making new connections for future endeavours.
