Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

Working within the Plant Engineering Team, supporting the analysis team on both reactive tasks to support manufacturing and also ongoing engineering projects. I have written technical reports, become adept with industry software such as Abaqus and Hyperworks and got involved with extra curricular activities like careers fairs and STEM events.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Yes, I have run my own project that will end in a technical report. Through this I have trained new graduates and apprentices and learnt a lot of soft skills e.g. planning meetings to give updates to my supervisor and communication with my team.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

Although there wasn't a structure to the work I was put on, I have been given/ experienced everything on my placement year that I would in a real role. My managers have been very supportive of my progress and my wellbeing here. Sometimes however the tasks weren't always made clear from the beginning and last minute changes were made. This could've been avoided with more clear communication at the start.
