Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
I develop various features for my project using both front-end frameworks like react and back-end frameworks like fastAPI. I also work on the testing frameworks for both the frontend and backend and have begun developing on our CI/CD pipelines.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
I was given a good amount of responsibility, fairly quickly being given my own tickets and being treat like another member of the team rather than a placement student. I was never overwhelmed and help was given when needed, but I could act independently when appropriate

Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
I've learnt a lot of new frameworks, and also improved my python and typescript skills considerably. I had never done testing work before this placement and learnt a lot about how to test the features that I was implementing.

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
I was provided plenty of support by various members of the team when I needed it. I never felt worried to ask for help if I was stuck as everyone was always friendly and willing to help.

The company culture was fairly friendly and I never really had issues bringing up ideas and always got along well talking to my co-workers

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I have very much enjoyed my placement and found it to be a helpful experience in furthering my learning and career in general. I have even extended my placement past the original 12 months.

What advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems
Always be willing to learn new things and never stay stuck in your ways. You have to be open to learning how the project your assigned to works. Its okay to not know everything, thats why your at your placement.
