Hardware engineer (Electronic Systems) Review

My role as a hardware engineer involved me performing a wide range of tasks. My days would focus around testing new equipment in the lab and developing software to capture data from those tests. When testing equipment I would also be required to find any faults or issues and then perform repairs where necessary. Another major part to the role was building relationships with external suppliers and familiarising myself with all the products available on the market.

To my surprise I was given a large amount of freedom in my work. However, this is all dependent on the project you are placed on.

I have vastly improved my skills within the CAD and MATLAB environments. Learning to design complex prototypes and create intricate data capturing software. I also had the opportunity to expanding and improve upon my general engineering skills, such as soldering. Also by having the chance to speak with suppliers my commercial awareness has been expanded, providing a key insight into how modern day engineering companies operate.

Whenever I had an issue I could always turn to my supervisor or my fellow peers. They would sit down with me and thoroughly explain a process and then walk me through a procedure until I was confident enough to do it alone.

The atmosphere has always been welcoming and there are monthly socials for employees to take part in.

I have loved every part of my placement, even the tedious data analytics. Working here has always been rewarding and enjoyable, making each day in the office different from the last.
