Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

Working in the Project Management function in an area of BAE Systems. Help delivering key PM fundamentals ranging from reporting, risk management, cost base management and opportunities outside your day-to-day role.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Very much so. I was given multiple areas of responsibility and key deliverables to act against. Many moments of having to engage with senior leaders to gauge key developments across multiple areas.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

Joined with no previous Project Management experience. Now have a full foundation of PM knowledge to take forward and has been extremely valuable. These skills range from PM fundamentals but also lots of opportunity for personal development.

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

Frequent support. I saw my line manager most days and on top of this has frequent monthly 1-1's. There was also an early careers representative that was available to contract at any time.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

Very positive. The culture is one of development and doing the right thing. The team I was placed into was really positive. We got on very well and all worked together or offered help when required.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

I thoroughly enjoyed my placement. I had some exposure to excellent opportunities across my 12 months and am thrilled I undertook a placement year and at BAE Systems especially.
