Industrial placement Review

I am part of the Actuarial team in the Belfast office. On a daily basis, I calculate cash equivalent transfer values, complete accounting tools and reports, complete annual valuation tools and reports as well as other general reports for different clients. I have also had the chance to organise charity events such as monthly steps challenges, movember and the tag rugby team.

I have felt an important role in being the doer for work on a large number of schemes. I have always felt part of the client teams and that my role is as important as everyone else's within the team. I have also been left responsible for organising charity events where I have been given the freedom to largely organise and come up with ideas myself.

I have developed my team work skill largely. Working in a team is a huge part of our job as there are at least 3 people working on each piece of work. This has also helped my communication. Communication is key within a team and I have developed this both verbally and through written communication. I have also got to present in front of large audiences which has developed my presentational skills.

I have received a good amount of support on placement. Everyone has been very welcoming and helpful. Sometimes when on a piece of work, it can be assumed that you have done this type of work before when you haven't. This can sometimes be an issue if you are left alone to work on with this. People are generally willing to help when you reach out with questions.
