Formulation Scientist Review

My role is within the Science and Technology team at Port Sunlight, focusing on hair care innovation for Unilever. Day-to-day, I work in the lab developing and testing new formulations. This involves hands-on experimentation, generating key data, analysing results using software tools, and contributing insights to support product development.

From the start of my placement, I was trusted with the responsibility to run my own experiments. While I had full support from my managers and team, this independence encouraged me to manage my time effectively and make important project decisions, helping me grow both technically and professionally.

During my placement, I improved my time management to meet deadlines and deliver data efficiently. My research and analytical skills grew through using tools like Excel and JMP. I also enhanced my communication skills by presenting findings clearly to stakeholders, ensuring complex information was shared in a concise and effective way.

I received a good amount of support during my placement. The team was approachable, always willing to help, and happy to answer all my questions. They provided guidance whenever needed, which helped me learn and grow throughout the experience. It was a supportive and encouraging environment.

I thoroughly enjoyed my placement and had a great experience working here. The placement has provided a strong foundation for my career.
