Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
I support a range of projects within the team, from the creation of brand strategy documents to leading activations within global campaigns. On a day-to-day basis this involves team meetings, research, budget management, liaising with agencies, preparing decks, drafting documents and attending workshops.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Throughout my year placement, I was given increasing levels of responsibility. Starting from exclusively supporting roles within projects, to now leading entire workstreams myself and leading activations within global campaigns.

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
I have learnt budget management, including raising and processing payments, forecasting spends, managing brand investments and monthly budget extractions. Through this I have strongly developed my Excel skills.

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
I received a good amount of support from my manager, director, and my other team members, as well as the agency we were contracted through. We had regular training and development calls which were helpful in developing specific skills.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The company culture is generally inclusive, collaborative, and supportive, with monthly department meetings where different teams were able to share work, and business-group-wide Teams chats for sharing and community.

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I enjoyed my placement and found the projects I was involved in to be very aligned with my future career plans which allowed me to develop skills that I will be taking forward in my "real-life" career moving forward.

What advice would you give to others applying to Unilever
I would encourage others to be confident, show an interest in the wider business rather than just your own team/business group, have a general understanding of basic business skills and FMCG industry knowledge. Do your research in advance, and most importantly just be yourself - they want people who are confident in themselves and can work well with others.
