Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
I sat in the Competition and Projects teams, supporting live matters and knowledge work. Daily tasks included legal research, drafting client updates and internal resources, and preparing correspondence. I regularly collaborated with trainees and associates, receiving guidance and feedback. I also engaged with business services teams in firmwide sessions about pro bono, inclusion, and behavioural styles. Notable projects included drafting client updates on the DMCC Act 2024 and the Building Safety Act 2022.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
Learning about the business was very insightful and motivating. Through the work and firmwide sessions, I gained a clearer view of Dentons’ global structure, practice areas, and commitment to innovation and inclusion. Speaking with trainees and associates across departments gave me a realistic picture of the role of a trainee solicitor, from the variety of work to the level of responsibility.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
I developed my legal drafting by producing client updates and internal resources across both seats, learning to write clearly for different audiences. I improved my research skills by tackling unfamiliar legislation and procedures, such as the DMCC Act and Online Money Claims Centre, and synthesising complex material efficiently. Working closely with fee earners also helped refine my communication skills, as I learned to ask focused questions, adapt to different working styles, and take on feedback constructively.
