Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
Over two days, I had the opportunity to learn about the firm’s culture through having a lunch with trainees which involved a Q&A. I also attended a Department Roadshow which was a whistle stop tour of a few of Fieldfisher’s practice areas which was very informative. There was also a pizza making social with a trainee, Emily which was really fun and gave us the opportunity to socialise with each other outside of the office.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
It was amazing, as I received an insight into an area I had no idea about (tax litigation). I also learnt about medical negligence which I had learnt about in my law degree but never looked into in practice - so this was really interesting.
Also, it was great to learn about the fast track opportunities to a vacation scheme or training contract to have a possible future with the firm.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
I’ve learnt about Tax Litigation and how Fieldfisher is quite unique in having two lawyers within this team, as well as generating a huge profit from this team. I didn’t know anything about the intricacies of tax litigation, so this was useful to learn.
We also had a pitch exercise where we had to work as a group for an hour and so and create a poster for how we would promote this programme. This helped me to develop time-management, teamwork skills, as well as public speaking skills.

Yes
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Fieldfisher LLP
I would tell them to definitely consider the Birmingham office because it is a really nice environment. Also that the culture of Fieldfisher is very welcoming, so they should apply to Fieldfisher if they want to do high quality work in a collegiate atmosphere.
I’d also say to do a lot of research about what makes Fieldfisher unique because I’ve learnt that they are different to other firms, even in Birmingham.
