First Steps Program Attendee Review

We began the first day with a talk from the managing partner of the Manchester office as well as a Graduate Partner who gave us an insight into Fieldfisher as well as some application tips. We had a Q&A session with current trainees as well as a social with them in the evening in which they answered all of my questions. We also had a departments roadshow on the second day which was very informative about the differing departments within the firm. The activity at the end of the second day was enjoyable and the employability talk gave a great insight into the application process.

It has been very informative learning about the differing pathways into a career in law, including the apprenticeship and being a paralegal first. The session about the summer scheme and the training contract was also very helpful in this regard.

The pitching group exercise definitely developed my teamwork skills and has given me another example of when I have utilised teamwork to use in interviews. The employability session, as well as the different generations in law session, has aided my communication skills and reminded me that being able to change your communication style depending on who you are talking to is key. I also have greater knowledge of the differing departments within the law firm.

The company culture was very friendly, with people from numerous levels within the company leading discussions with us. I found the general atmosphere to be very welcoming and supportive.

I greatly enjoyed the insight program. It has given me a greater knowledge of what working at a law firm would be like. The departments roadshow was especially interesting, particularly the regulatory session. All the tips and hints on employability and the application process, both specific to Fieldfisher and more broadly, have been very useful.
