Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
Completed a week-long Spring Insight Programme at Jefferies, exploring Investment Banking via interactive sessions, technical workshops, and deal case studies in M&A, ECM, and Leveraged Finance. Analysed past transactions to understand deal structuring, client strategy, and sector trends, and delivered an IPO pitch simulation with AmplifyMe—incorporating DCF modelling, relative valuation, and an investor roadshow presentation. Also gained practical financial modelling skills while networking with senior bankers and graduates and enhancing commercial awareness.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
The programme provided an immersive experience that clarified the intricacies of Jefferies Investment Banking and the variety of roles available. It combined interactive sessions, technical workshops, and in-depth case studies, which together demystified the daily operations—from financial modelling and valuation to client strategy and deal structuring. Networking with senior bankers and recent graduates further illuminated the distinct career paths, offering insights into both analyst and associate roles while emphasising the collaborative, fast-paced nature of the industry. This comprehensive exposure made it clear what a career in investment banking could look like.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
I developed existing modelling and presentation skills and learned how to properly read the FT. I observed senior Jefferies employees delivered excellent talks which inspired me to develop my own public speaking skills so during the insight programmed I took every chance to speak in front of the group. There were plenty of ways for me to go outside my comfort zone and push myself. My knowledge of the lines of business within the investment bank were also enhanced.
