Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
The day to day tasks varied. Most days involved some talks that gave insights into different areas of investment banking, as well as interactive case studies often led by associates at the firm. One day also had an IPO simulation ran by AmplifyMe, followed by a presentation to the cohort.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
It was fantastic. I initially was not aware of how many different areas were available to you, so it was amazing to hear from people who specialise in all different areas as well as learning what led to their decision and how their day-to-day varies from people that work in different areas of the business.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
I have learnt a number of skills. On the technical side, I learnt so much about the financial world especially coming from a non-financial degree, as well as putting my knowledge to use through an excel modelling task. I also learnt a number of soft skills, such as public speaking as well as the importance of teamwork and likability in investment banking

Company Culture

How would you rate business leader involvement during the insight
5/5
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The company culture was very good. One thing that stood out to me was how authentic and genuine all the people I met were. They were all extremely honest and open about their time at Jefferies, as well as always accepting any questions the interns had. Everything I had seen on their website, such as the firm being very 'flat' was all true and it was great learning about their culture through the analysts and associates.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
I really enjoyed the insight. The talks were all super informative and it made me realise which areas of investment banking really stand out to me, such as energy. I also really enjoyed how much opportunity there was to talk to the associates and analysts, as I believe this is the best way to find out whether the company is a good fit for you. All the tasks were also super interactive, notably the AmplifyMe simulation.

Would you recommend Jefferies International to a friend?
Yes
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Jefferies International
Be as honest as you can throughout the process. Good advice from one of the analysts was that you are interviewing the firm as much as they are interviewing you, so being honest will help you realise whether the company is a good fit for you.
In terms of the application process, I would recommend knowing your technicals well as well as knowing your CV. In the behavioural questions, answer as honestly as you can, as it is very obvious if you answer is 100% rehearsed.
