Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.

I was part of the Leeds office for the week. It was incredibly insightful to be able to complete real-life trainee level tasks, which further affirmed my desire to pursue a career in law at Shoosmiths. Everyone within the office is genuinely so lovely and it is by far the best legal experience I have had to do date.

What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?

We had various talks about each aspect of the firm, from its incredibly forward-thinking sustainability ambitions to its innovative use of AI and legal tech that were incredibly insightful. All aspects of the business, including diversity networks and extra-curricular activities were covered, and I feel that my knowledge of the firm is now incredibly thorough.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

The week is pretty full-on, so it was essential to manage you work-load well and be organised. I was also able to develop my legal research skills, as well as completing tasks such as drafting letters to clients and other parties.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

Genuinely by far the best firm I have had work experience at. Everyone is so friendly and willing to give up their time if you have any questions. For example, even though I was part of a different team for the week, an associate in litigation gave up an hour of their time to explain their expertise to me after I expressed an interest in this area of law.
