Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
Received new projects from my mentor that I could assist with, included: assessing suitability for development of a residential site, co-location scheme potential across the London boroughs, looking at new Grey Belt policy potential, assisting others in the planning team on administrative tasks, attending planning teams meetings. My mentor and I often went for informal chats where she explained the rationale of the planning process, and explained well the essential role of planners working in the company
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
It was mostly self-motivated i.e. my mentor did not have a significant hands-on approach to helping me find out about other roles in the company. I however took advantage of the Savills Connect page which allowed me to reach out to other professionals in other sectors who I then met up with. Based in the head office, the ease of meeting with them was much appreciate and allowed me to really take advantage of my time here to build my network in the industry further

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
Yes, I previously had little to no knowledge of the field at all, but after this scheme, feel I have a sufficient grasp and am excited to explore this potential career opportunity. We also had discussions surrounding how workplace differs from academia, especially in terms of concision when writing reports and the importance of negotiation and flexibility when dealing with clients.

Company Culture

How would you rate business leader involvement during the insight
4/5
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Great. The team and collaborative culture was very interesting and my team specifically seem to be very close and chat informally. This made it a more relaxed atmosphere which I enjoyed. Across the planning division as a whole, there was signfiicant collaboration and a desire to learn more about others which I also found to be insightful and refreshing.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
I enjoyed my insight very much. Because there were some students based in other locations a lot of the events were online though I feel that in-person ones would have allowed for more robust networking opportunities. I enjoyed nonetheless
