Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
Typical BDR role, making cold calls, taking sales meetings, email outreach. Working closely with BDR line manager, Account managers and sometimes Professional services or sales enablement. Took on various additional optional projects and titles such as Learning and Development SME, WBR reporting, Fireside Chats Host, Led Live Webinar Series
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Given lots of responsibilty, perhaps too much at times. However the core role became tedious and repetitive at points, so it was nice to have projects to fall back on, although this sometimes was time consuming and stressful sometimes.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
Lots of support from my team (BDR) as well as the Account management team (more experienced salespeople). I was given a mentor (for work related help) and buddy for my first 3 months (for general help). These combined made for a great support netwrok. However, my manager was often distant and only really communicated during weekly 1:1s.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Amazon had been my 'dream company' for many years, and the culture only exceeded my expectations. On most days, I was grateful to be going into work during my morning commute, as I loved the office culture, furniture and people. In terms of the specific aspects of the culture, refer to the famous 16 Leadership Principles of Amazon. Most of us could recite these by heart, and they were genuinely very prominent aspects of the culture. It was not just on the website for show! They all made great sense, from business and employee perspective.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
As mentioned earlier, this was my dream corporate job (role and company) and it exceeded expectations. To make it even better, I could have networked even more, built a personal brand or online presence, and been more 'present' rather than being caught up in the numbers and targets so much. But Amazon was an amazing experience and I would go back if given the opportunity. I was happy with the compsensation (base salary and relocation bonus), which blew my mind and allowed me to create a lucrative savings strategy. Although at the time, I enjoyed so much, I wouldve worked most days for free! The only downside was the leadership style of my manager, who seemed very distant, and I did not feel motivted to work for her, but rather the company and my peers instead.
