Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
As a design engineer in the Structures department I was responsible for assessing whether parts met technical regulations and the required life, while being as light as possible, before they were released to manufacture. This was done primarily through finite element analysis software however it was also backed up by hand calculations and physical testing.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Almost immediately I was given the responsibility of a full-time employee in the department. I got up to speed with the software with a few simple exercises and then helping colleagues with elements of ongoing projects but was then given my own project within the first weeks.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
The placement allowed me to put the theory I had learned at university into practice and become proficient using industry standard finite element analysis software. I worked on a large range of projects spanning all areas of the car, different materials, and different manufacturing processes and finishes.

Would you recommend Atlassian Williams F1 Team to a friend?
Yes
What advice would you give to others applying to Atlassian Williams F1 Team
Don't think you need *just* engineering/racing experience on your CV - your other experience/interests may well have given you other useful skills and make you a more rounded person. Interviews are about your character and whether you'll be a good fit with the team as well as your technical ability - it's important to be yourself.
