Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
A composite designer role would include CAD design of various components on the car and composite tooling assemblies. This includes a lot of collaboration with various designers in different design groups to ensure high quality components. The role also includes a lot of hands on support for manufacturing, supporting operations and production on any potential queries they may have, and supporting on any problem that might be encountered.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Yes, from the get go, I was able to get involved with projects which had an impact on the team. Naturally the level of responsibility increased throughout the placement, being able to be fully responsible for components and assemblies by the end. The design group was always very supportive of any question I might have had, and enabled me to complete all projects on time and to a high quality.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
I had the opportunity to develop multiple skills throughout my placement. I gained invaluable technical knowledge about composite design in an F1 team and familiarised myself with a new CAD package. I also developed various soft skills, such as effective communication, which was a big part of the role, communicating with different stakeholders to ensure parts were delivered to a high quality and to ensure deadlines were met.
