echnologist Researcher (Quantum Communications) Review

I researched technologies within quantum communication. This involved reading journal articles, books, research papers and news articles. I compiled my understanding of the subject into a technical report to meet a brief. At the end of the internship, I prepared a presentation to convey these findings to staff members at the company.
Throughout the internship, I had the support of a supervisor and regular meetings to discuss any issues and my progress.

I was not given much responsibility during the internship, but this is not unexpected for this industry and a two-week internship.

The experience has improved my organisation and self-management skills; you are responsible for meeting deadlines to complete reports and presentations. In addition, I have developed my critical analysis skills through researching different technologies, evaluating them and applying them to the brief. I have also developed my understanding of academic writing, specifically for technical reports, which will be extremely beneficial for my upcoming university coursework.

My supervisor frequently had catch-up meetings throughout the internship, which was helpful for asking questions and gaining feedback. My report was also reviewed by my university internship coordinator and supervisor, from which I gained valuable comments. Overall, the support was reassuring and extremely beneficial for developing my skills.

As I was taking this internship remotely and only interacted with my supervisor, I am unable to comment on the wider atmosphere at the company. However, I was offered to connect with other specialists at the company who would have been happy to answer any technical questions. Despite being a remote role, we were also offered an in-person site visit.

It was certainly a challenging experience. I found the research interesting and the overall experience felt rewarding.
