Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
Producing reports, reading policy documents and strategies, attending team-wide and department-wide meetings, arranging politician visits to charity shops. Occasional travel to London to attend team building away days (travel expenses covered).

Support and Guidance
How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
CRUK is an incredibly supportive and friendly environment. Despite being home-based, I still felt connected to my team and like I could message people for help if I needed. I had weekly 1:1 check-in calls with my line manager to discuss how I was progressing with my objectives and what support I needed. Given all tech needed including a laptop and headset to attend online meetings.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Incredibly friendly and welcoming team. Managers and heads of departments are approachable and made an effort to welcome me when I started.

What advice would you give to others applying to Cancer Research UK
Be sure to show your enthusiasm and passion for CRUK's mission in your application form and make it as specific as possible to the department and directorate you're applying for. The situational judgement test is a test of CRUK's values which are on their website so read these and consider which answer fits best with the values. Prepare for the interview by researching the work the department has been doing, read any relevant reports they have produced. Be knowledgeable about the sector (eg, if applying for a position in the devolved nations demonstrate you understand how the health system works in devolved, if applying for a policy role demonstrate you understand politics and how bills are developed)
