Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
Role was a 6 week internship in actuary and consulting. Involved learning about pensions. Particularly DB pension schemes. Day to day I would calculate transfer values for members of schemes. I also produced reports that were sent to members outlining any updates to their pensions.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Yes during my placement I was given transfer values to calculate for members. I was also put in charge of the calc log and insuring it was up to date. I felt this was a big responsibility having only been there a couple of weeks, but it made me feel like I was valued

Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
I have learnt many skills, for example my excel skills have improved hugely. I also improved my communication skills when trying to coordinate the calc log with checkers and reviewers. My problem solving skills were developed when faced with things I hadn't seen before

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
Lots of support was available, my buddy was really helpful. Everytime I worked with a new member of staff they were all really happy to give up their time and help explain things to me

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The company had a great culture. I attended the quiz night and it was a great event to get chance to speak to people I hadn't before

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I thoroughly enjoyed my internship. The whole office was a great team and made me feel welcome from the first day. The work was interesting and different everyday, which is something that I really liked about it
