Overview of Experience
Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
Around 1/3 of my time has been spent carrying out inspections on site around the south of England. Following this I have been updating and filing reports (which are reviewed before submission) on the sites which I have inspected (while supervised) at the requirement of the client for actions such and maintenance and development of the site.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
I have found this experience extremely helpful as I will be starting full time in a different career path, Quantity surveying as apposed to building surveying which has been the focus of this placement.
This has allowed me to make a fully informed decision as to which career path will best suit me going forward.

Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
My CAD skills have developed when finding areas to calculate values for materials maintenance on buildings. As well as this my knowledge of building pathology and skill of identifying building defects has dramatically improved from time spent on site where I am able to ask professionals regarding what I am seeing and what the follow on effects are that the defect might have.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Everyone I have met within the office and whilst on site has been extremely friendly towards me and has built a kind atmosphere in the office. I was lucky to carry out my placement during a sunny spell which lead to a lot of us sitting and having lunch together on the city common most days.

To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
I particularly enjoyed the site visits as spending the day with someone and getting to see a manner of different places and buildings ensured that no two days were the same.

To go for it! but ensure that you are coordinated with your time scheduling and calendar as there are a lot of projects happening at once that you will be working on.
