Network Services Intern Review

Ask around for what's going on if nothing has been preplanned and spend the day shadowing someone (can be anything from planning to jointing). Help out wherever possible, however interns aren't authorised to do much so there isn't much hands on work to do.

Very little responsibility, with field jobs the intern isn't authorised to do much although I helped with anything I was able to. With office based work I had a go at making my own quotes but these were only for practice, not to be sent to the customer. Little actual work was given for me to do and the internship is focused much more on learning and shadowing others than providing any value back to the company in return

Strongly developed my understanding of the electricity distribution network and the process the company goes through to make modifications or alterations. Learned how to use national grid software to plan and quote for jobs.

Support was good, I wasn't really approached to ask how I was doing outside of the first 2 weeks and the interim review, however I always felt I could ask questions if I needed and my colleagues were approachable and helpful

Good, relaxed and easy to get on with, people in the office didn't seem too overworked, however the field teams were sometimes easily annoyed at the office while on jobs although didn't express it in front of them

Most of the time it was very enjoyable, the people were friendly and the jobs I was sent on were interesting. However there were a few days where I wasn't able to find something to go out and see and ended up in the office with nothing to do. The review form to complete before the interim and final review seemed longer than necessary and was boring.
