Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

As an engineering placement student I attended the engineering IDEX meetings, uploaded production data, monitored the health of our meters on site and worked on various different engineering projects. From investigating faults to drawing P&ID, there were a range of skills I used and learnt during this placement.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Yes, if you have any contractors in you are responsible for their safety. My projects were my own responsibility, this included contacting companies, ordering parts, finding dates etc…

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

I gained many new skills such as contractor management, improved my software skills and working on different projects improved my technical skills. Since Cargill encourages training, I attended a fair amount of courses which developed into new skills.

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

I was quite independent during this placement but if I was having any troubles with any of my projects I could ask any of the engineering team for help and they would point me in the right direction.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

I enjoyed my placement, I learnt a variety of new skills and was able to step out of my comfort zone. I think this company was a great place for someone who is new to the corporate world.
