Summer Scheme Student Review

My role is based in the Rural and Projects Department, in the Rural Management Team assisting with the management of Estates. On a day-to-day basis my role varies depending on whether I am in the office or on a site visit. Tasks in the office involve rent reviews, assisting with budgetary or estimated land value increase spreadsheets for estates, creating schedule of works and drafting various documents such as particulars for the sale of land, head of terms and licences. It also entails attending office meetings which may be general meetings or those relevant to estates. In terms of tasks undertaken on out-of-office days, this involves attending client meetings, property inspections and property viewings.

I think I was given a sufficient amount of responsibility during my internship to ensure I could get involved with the tasks assigned to me and feel like I had an impact through my work. But, this responsibility was not excessive to the point where I felt overwhelmed as I have not qualified in this sector. It was helpful for my supervisors to give me responsibility to complete the tasks but, then check over my work and provide feedback if it was not correct.

I have enhanced my pre-existing communication skills inside the office when interacting with my colleagues to understand the various tasks I am assigned. Working together with my colleagues on certain projects has also enhanced my team work skills. My communication skills and professionalism have also developed by observing my colleagues speaking with clients, especially when there is a subject of contention.
Being given various projects with responsibility has enabled me to enhance my problem-solving and critical thinking skills to ensure I find a solution and provide this to the best of my ability.

I received a high level of support and guidance throughout my internship, particularly through a graduate. My colleagues were always happy to help me with any queries I had or show me where things were located/give me a demonstration of how to do specific tasks.

The company culture and atmosphere was amazing. The team were very welcoming, they were always happy to help and would go above and beyond to do so. They were also very strong on sticking to working hours and maintaining a work/life balance.

I thoroughly enjoyed my internship to a large extent. I was treated as one of the team, given the responsibility of a graduate and I got to experience the variety of tasks they undertake- both in the office and on site visits. I felt very supported in my role when I had queries regarding tasks and the team provided extra information on occasions to aid me in my role as I did not undertake an accredited degree.
