Part 1 Architectural Assistant Review

My role was to assist in the production and management of architectural drawings, visit sites and occasionally undertake measured surveys. Day-to-day i would be working with architectural software's, drawing details, site plans, elevations and other types of drawings to assist the project manager in achieving deadlines. As i gained more experience I undertook a smaller project where I was the primary designer and had assistance where needed.

Within the first couple of months i was trusted with undertaking surveys on residential properties in Lancashire. This meant taking equipment and a company car for a couple of weeks until the work was complete. after i had initially been shown the basics, the majority of this was lone working. Later in my placement i had my own project which i took on from someone else, i had to develop this to a 'construction issue' standard, whilst doing this i had the help of the technical manager when i needed it.

I have hugely developed my existing Revit skills (software) as well as learning how to manage myself and allocate time and resource to multiple projects. I have increased my working knowledge to a point where I can help other people.,

Plenty! Whenever i had a question there was always someone to ask, whether that's in person or via a Teams call.

Naturally the workload is quite a lot with sometimes strict deadlines which can put a lot of pressure on some people, but equally it means you have to be organised and this can be a good challenge to improve your time management.
Aside from the work, we also had a company funded social budget which we could use outside of work, where we would go to places like flight club or out for a team meal

I thoroughly enjoyed my placement, It has allowed me to develop my career, take on more responsibility and pass on knowledge I have learnt along the way.
