Overview of Experience
Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
We attended presentations on the firm's various practice areas, which allowed us to ask questions and gain a deeper understanding of each sector. We worked closely with our trainers in our assigned practice areas on a variety of tasks. We also participated in social events that enabled us to network with firm members. Additionally, we collaborated on a group project that we presented at the end of the two weeks. Throughout the scheme, we had many opportunities to have coffees and network with individuals across the firm.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
Understanding the business and potential roles available was incredibly helpful and insightful as an aspiring solicitor. It allowed me to appreciate the breadth of work and range of practice areas within A&O Shearman. Whether it was transactional, advisory, or litigation work, we gained valuable insights into the daily lives of solicitors in these sectors and the reasons behind their chosen areas.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
I enhanced my legal research and analytical skills by working on various tasks in my allocated practice area. I improved my communication skills through engaging in discussions during presentations and networking events. Working on a group project helped me develop my ability to collaborate effectively with others and share responsibilities. Handling real legal documents and tasks increased my attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and precision in my work.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The company culture and atmosphere were definitely highlights of the scheme and made it incredibly enjoyable. Everyone I interacted with was approachable and kind, creating a welcoming and supportive environment. People were always willing to take time out of their day to talk with me and answer any questions I had. This positive atmosphere really made it easy to build relationships and network within the firm.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
I thoroughly enjoyed the scheme. From the various presentations to the work with my trainer and social events, everything was interesting and highly enjoyable. I learnt a lot and feel I got a true insight into the culture at A&O Shearman. The scheme really exceeded my expectations.
