Digital & Automation Scientist Review

My overall activity split across two sites generally involved operating with highthroughput platforms for the Beauty&Wellbeing and Personal Care brands. A major part of my work revolved around researching and conducting/managing a project that stood as my Industrial Placement Dissertation.

Having the opportunity to design a project aimed at creating a predictive model for the mildness output from various formulations with a view to reducing the need for repetitive experiments and predicting the mildness of formulations more accurately has allowed for my own responsibility related to the running of the project and the technical quality of he outcome.
In addition, it induced a superior way of feeling responsible for the future utilisation of the built model in the industry, for the company’s investment and ultimately for the consumers.

Working in an environment surrounded by scientists with a strong background in chemistry has challenged and facilitated an in-depth understanding and knowledge of the fundamental principles of formulation science. This wide professional exposure facilitated an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the entire activity by being trained in and then operating cutting-edge equipment and becoming an active part of the team’s dynamics.The strong theoretical context laid foundation to being able to progress in operating equipment and being able to have professional and scientifically accurate discussions with requestor global teams with a view to successfully developing projects.In addition, numerous transferable skills have been significantly improved. The opportunity of designing and further implementing a real-world industry Project has increased the awareness and in-depth understanding of project management running while also allowing for decision making, teamwork and leadership skills.
Daily work, professional tasks and responsibilities have increased awareness of safety standards and massively improved both verbal and written communication skills. Work ethics and confidentiality have also been valuable capabilities acquired.

The support provided by my team, as well as the larger Product Engineering group has been invaluable. Comprehensive guidance was provided from the beginning and facilitated a good integration into the company.

The general atmosphere was very inclusive and encouraging for all individuals to stand by and represent their different cultures and beliefs.

The placement provided an overall incredible experience to develop both professionally, as well as personally. I highly appreciated my line manager constant support which enhanced this enriching experience.
