Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
I worked as a facilities engineer so I was responsible for the maintenance and improvement of certain machines and services in both the press and plastics shops. This mainly involved electrical and electronic engineering jobs as that is where I was initially strongest when I began.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Yes, I was given pretty much full autonomy over my projects. However, the nature of being on placement meant that usually I was working with other, more experienced, staff in order to get their advice.

Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
Nissan has plenty of training opportunities for staff and placements. During my time there I trained in PLC programming, Robotics operation, Hydraulics engineering, Pneumatics engineering, Electrical drawing production with software, Dangerous atmosphere training. All of these courses were well taught and engaging. I also developed some of my existing skills from university in this role such as circuit logic and electrical wiring

Support and Guidance
How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
Guidance and support was always available to me during my placement from everyone I interacted with, whether they were in my department or not. This meant that no matter what project I was working on, there was always someone with the expertise to provide support.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Nissan has an incredibly inviting culture and atmosphere. There was never a time when I didn't feel welcome and I always felt comfortable to ask for help or advice.

As much as Nissan is looking for skilled engineers, they are also looking for individuals that will mesh well with their friendly and inclusive culture. When applying for Nissan, make sure to get across not only your skills but also what you're like as a person and show them that you would be able to get on well with the people you would be working with.
