Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
Daily I plan experiments, by working with the team to outline testing objectives and prioritise tasks based on time and resource availability. A portion of my work is based in the laboratory, directly testing materials and manually collecting the data, however most is organising the delivery of samples for external testing. Commonly I engage in discussions about my analysed results, in order to plan further experiments, but also other business issues.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Predominantly, left alone to run the project how I saw fit with, I designed the vast majority of the testing procedures and chose the parameters for each, I was also left to decide the direction the project went in and what we should focus our efforts on. I was also trusted to organise contracts, meeting and follow up meeting with suppliers to present the data we had generated on their materials, will little objection.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Unilever to a friend?
Yes
What advice would you give to others applying to Unilever
- Be prepared to move location, your location is decided for you.
- Be certain when choosing the role you want to fill, as you can only apply to one and may actually prefer another if you look into it more
- Definitely be yourself when applying, you can tell when someone is genuine
- Know the brands and how Unilever operates
- Enjoy the discovery centre, talking over people doesn't make you the 'leader'.
