Comms and Sustainability IP Review

I partly work within the sustainability function to support Unilever's agenda to improve people's health and wellbeing. This includes working in areas such as physical health, mental wellbeing, and our global response to disasters and emergencies. I also work within the communications and corporate affairs function to ensure that each member of the Beauty & Wellbeing Business Group is kept up to date with all key business updates, any internal and external news coverage, any key results updates, etc.

Yes! Lots! As previously mentioned, I have managed several projects. Some have remained solely internal which was a great way to initially develop my skills, then moving on to leading on the reporting of a metric within the externally published reports for 2023. This was a great experience with a lot of responsibility which made it all the more rewarding.

I have learnt how to communicate with internal and external stakeholders efficiently. I have proactively led on projects which has meant managing my own time and other people's time, providing constructive and insightful feedback, chasing contacts where tight deadlines are involved and information is required, whilst also developing my professional self.

My teams have been super supportive! I have found that if I have any concerns or issues, my line manager is always a pair of ears to listen. Around the business, there are several contacts I am able to reach out to should I require support. There are also regular check-ins with my line managers which provides a platform where I can ask for further support or guidance if needed.

The functions themselves have socials, and then there is a wider office-based social committee of people who also organise further social events. There is, of course, also scope for you to take initiative and plan social events for your team/function/IPs/etc. should you so wish!

I really enjoyed my placement and would recommend Unilever as a supportive, inclusive and great workplace!
