Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

I am a category procurement assistant within the beauty and wellbeing group, with my role focusing specifically on the innovation projects for Unilever’s hair care brands across Europe. I collaborate with various brand teams and participate in weekly Microsoft Teams calls to stay connected with all the projects under my scope. I have to ensure that there are contracts in place for all new raw or pack materials, if not, I use a software to request a quotation from the buyer. I will also check the lead times of the raw/pack materials to ensure that the supply chain team are placing orders in time to meet the required timings in the network.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

I was given much more responsibility than I expected; I am the primary procurement point of contact for the hair care innovation projects for Europe, and have had the responsibility to take a leading role in the preparation of the 2025 savings workshop.

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

- I have developed my digital skills through using excel and other data management softwares daily.
- My communication skills have improved through regular presentations to my team, as well as adapting to build relationships virtually.
- I have learnt resilience and adaptability as innovation projects are susceptible to change which can result in unexpected setbacks and pressure on timings.

I have felt very supported during my placement, I have regular 1-2-1 meetings with my manager, and also support from the future careers team through catch-up and mentor calls with other IP's and apprentices.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

I have loved working at Unilever because of the culture, I have found everyone to be supportive and happy to have a chat to explain something that you are unsure on. The atmosphere in the office is really nice, I was part of the Christmas committee where we arranged events each day in December such as quizzes, crafts, white elephant etc.
