Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

Working on ice cream formulations to improve taste, texture or impact.
Typical responsibilities include carrying out analytical tasks, making ice cream and data analysis.
Work as part of a team to carry out projects which take roughly 3-6 months.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

I have been responsible for organising large tasks to be completed and leading small teams in carrying out these. This has developed my organisational skills and confidence in leadership.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

I have strengthened my communication, problem-solving and teamwork skills.
I have also learnt lots of new skills, developing new IT abilities as well as being trained on new equipment. I have also learnt lots about the science of ice cream.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

It has been a very supportive community. I have felt comfortable in asking for help if I am unsure and know someone will always help. If I do not feel knowledgeable enough to carry out a task then it was made clear that I did not have to do anything I didn't feel confident with. The teams are very supportive and are keen to help develop you.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

It is such a lovely company to work for. The culture is very friendly and welcoming. Everyone is lovely and willing to help if you are stuck or unsure of something. I have felt very accepted within the team and will be sad to leave. It is quite a positive atmosphere and very supportive as a community.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

I have really enjoyed my placement. I have been really pleased to see both my skills and confidence increase across the year. I have been able to contribute to meaningful work whilst also leading tasks. I have gained lots of professional development and there has been opportunities to get involved with initiatives outside my role. My team have been very welcoming and supportive and I will really miss it when I leave.
