Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

My daily role comprises of Managing a wide variety of Over and Above task that are in the proposal stage all the way through execution and the closeout. In addition, i am constantly communicating with a diverse team across multiple functions to ensure the tasks are running smoothly and on time. In addition to my normal week, my workload comprises of ensuring policy compliance with regards tot he core contract and also rewriting commercial guidance notes for the business unit

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

The range of responsibilities i have been subject to in my internship has been well beyond my comprehension. From being able to personally manage international proposals with our US counterparts to Multi-Million UK proposal and Labour reconciliations. In addition tot he work surrounding proposals,another core responsibility of my internship has been the management of a Multi million pound core contract. My responsibilities have ranged from day to day admin to amending schedules to fit the customers requirements

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

The main skills i have learnt whilst on placement are contract proposing and executing. By being surrounded by a range of SQEP in all relevant positions, my skillset has been propelled to ensure the team is strong in all areas. By being in close communication with all the relevant functions i have increased my knowledge of Finance, Engineering, Project Management and Supply Chain.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

During my internship i received a range of guidance regarding all aspects of the commercial function. The support came in the form of a strong team around me and a manager that has listened to my feedback throughout my entire role and allowed me to progress into a range of areas. In the terms of guidance, i have received guidance form all my peers from how to do day to day task and holding meetings to career aspects and progression.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

The company culture has been mediocre during my time. As much as everyone is nice to each other and supportive there is little to none social activity outside of work with your colleagues. I feel like if there was a wider range of social activities or more social spaces in the office then the culture would improve dramatically.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

I have thoroughly enjoyed my placement within the commercial team at Boeing. From the Team being Nice and supportive to being able to progress my skillset during my time by taking on new tasks and responsibilities. I have been able to make some connections for life across a wide range of teams within the company that i am sure will be beneficial towards my career progression. If i was told the range of responsibilities that i would have at the start of my internship i would never have thought it!!

What advice would you give to others applying to Boeing UK

Be yourself!, during my interview i made sure to be relaxed and engage with the interviewer to try and break down the wall of Interviewer and Interviewee. make sure to look up the Company values these are a driving force behind the interview process. My final point would be to make sure to be confident in your skills you put on your CV as you will be questioned on them!!. If you make up a role of responsibilities you will be found out and will add pressure along the way. Make sure to be well rehearsed on the skills you have already established and remember the interviewer is there to support you not scrutinize you!!
