Overview of Experience
Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
A range of activities were included! Partner-led presentations, time spent working with associates and trainees in the office, and a numerous social events.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
The firm were exceptional in informing us about their culture, business and roles. They catered to all backgrounds in providing this information and were great at delivering such in an engaging and accessible way.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
The placement was an excellent opportunity to develop my interpersonal communication skills - I met so many amazing people across the week and learnt to interact with them appropriately. I also enjoyed my first experience of handling legal documents, terms and concepts.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Allen & Overy is known for being a friendly firm. My encounters with its people proved this reputation to be well-founded! The firm is open, warm and very progressive. They cater to all needs, backgrounds and are at the cutting edge of workplace evolution.

To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
I greatly enjoyed the vacation scheme. The Grad Rec team curated an insight wth the perfect balance of work, presentations, free time and social activities. A truly enjoyable week!

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to A&O Shearman
Be yourself every step of the way! On paper, many are qualified to work at A&O. What sets the successful apart is their ability to be warm, personable, engaged (and even funny!) in their interviews. Attention to detail in written and spoken communication is also very important.
