Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
Day one included an introduction to the firm led by a partner, which was really insightful giving information about the work the firm has done but also future outlooks on the firm. It was coupled with an opportunity to network with trainess and learn more about hte firm which provided a unique and tailored experience to help better understand the firm. Day two offered a practice area road show which involved associates and partners talking about their work and what to expect when practicing that area of law. The day ended with a practice client pitch which was really helpful in understanding the firm better but also practicing skills needed for a lawyer.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
It was truly insightful understanding all about the business and potential roles. One thing that really stood out to me was listening to an associate in technology and data science talk as he mentioned that one of the partners worked on a so called "space law" project. This to me was really inspiring and found it amazing that a lawyer at Fieldfisher's was working on something so impressive and futuristic, I would never have thought that "space law" was even a thing before learning more about their business.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
From this event, I would undoubtedly say my networking skills have improved, the firm offers a unique opportunity to network with a wide range of people, not just the other candidates on the First Steps Programme. It also taught me presentation skills with the firm requiring us to complete a client pitch, this taught me how to present and how to explain issues to a client who may not know much about the law. Further, it taught me communication skills as the exercise stressed the importance of communicating clearly.

Company Culture

How would you rate business leader involvement during the insight
5/5
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The company culture and general atmosphere seemed really friendly and collaborative. Speaking to the trainees at the firm it seemed they all knew each other really well, which highlights the firms close knit team and collaborative nature. It seemed that more senior lawyers, such as associates and partners were also really approachable, this was something reinforced by the trainees who explained that partners have an open door policy. But also talking to partners at the firm exemplified this.

I enjoyed the insight to a great extent. It taught me valuable insights into the firm and the work they do. It gave me a much better understanding of the future of the firm and how the lawyers work, which I believe I can use to my advantage in future applications as the insights given were not information that you could find on their website. it truly gave us a better image of the firm and a unique understanding of their work and culture.

Yes
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Fieldfisher LLP
I believe you should research the firm thoroughly, as there are specific things about Fieldfisher's that sets them apart from other law firms. it is important to also note that whilst they have a global presence with a range of international offices, the work they do is solely based on European law. This is something unique about Fieldifsher's and something I have no found elsewhere. Also ensure that you understand the firms values and expectations as this will be assessed on the online assessment.
