Intern in Valuation Review

The insight programme was a means for students to create networks within savills and gather a feel of savills as a company. it showed me the sort of tasks i would be conducting and the sort of environment i would be working in if i choose to join savills through a graduate scheme or otherwise. on a day to day basis, i was mostly asked to complete comporables in the valuation department in order to be able to price properties in terms of similar surrounding properties. i found this quite interesting as valuation is the foundation of any role in real estate. i conducted 2 inspections of 2 different developments. each inspection taught me more about the development industry in real estate which i am quite interested in. i attended site visits for a small as well as large scale development. we had several speakers who were directors or graduates working at Savills who came in to provide us with information regarding their role. we had networking events with graduates and directors which was extremely insightful and helped us build more contacts within the industry.

I learned that there is a wide field of property in savills and that i should not focus on one specific field at this early stage. my week at savills has spiked interest in other areas of property that i was not focused on earlier as i simply did not know enough about it. this opens up more doors for me and more pathways on how to acquire these goals.

i have developed the skill of finding out comporables to an existing property using tools such as rightmove plus and londres. I have gained a better understanding on how to use excel and how to edit spread sheets. My time at savills tested my attention to detail and i learnt the importance of analysing property numbers including square footage, square meters, asking price, marketting price, and price per meter square. i learnt conversion methods and what each of them stands for. conducting inspections taught me how to measure properties using a disto and how resi properties are valued in practice and how it differs to theory.

it was friendly. everyone in the department seems to have a close relation with each other specally most of the grad students, being from similar or same universities and priorly knowing each other. However, the company is massive and it is almost impossible to know everyone.

i immesnly enjoyed the insight programme. have learned a lot and made a lot of new connections and am very proud to have been selected. it was definitely the oppurtunity of a lifetime.
