Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.

Started off with an introduction to the event and gave us an overview of what Amazon does and its core values. Competed in a hackathon on HackerRank. Panel talk with 5 Software Developers who shared their experience working at Amazon and how they came to Amazon. This was followed by an Interview Skills workshop that provided us insight into the hiring process and how we can do well in the assessments and interview. Finished off by letting us know about mentorship opportunities as well as the application process.

What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?

It was very interesting learning about the various teams the software developers were on and how exactly they contributed to Amazon, whether that be to the Prime Video side or the fashion side. It was also motivating to learn that participating in this hackathon would allow us to be able to apply early to the internships next year/

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Developed time-management, problem-solving and analytical-thinking skills. Time-management was essential as we couldn't spend too much time on a question. We also had to analyse the questions in the HackerRank and then use the coding skills we developed so far to solve the problem.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

everyone seemed very friendly and welcoming and were great in explaining the format of the event as well as the available opportunities for us. The software developers in the panel talk were very keen on sharing their experience working at Amazon as well as tips that have helped them in their career.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy the insight?

I enjoyed it a lot as there were a lot of different programmes involved in this event - it wasn't just participating in the hackathon. Listening to people who worked there was very helpful for those considering the opportunity to work for Amazon.
